trout fishing in pisgah

I've been doing a lot of fishing recently. I have not been catching much, or anything for that matter, but have been having a lot of fun trying. October is the perfect time for trout fishing in Pisgah.

Last Saturday's fishing excursion was perhaps the best loop in all of Pisgah. Starting from the Fish Hatchery:

475 > 475B > 225 > Sienard Ridge > Blue Ridge Parkway > 816 > Flat Laurel Creek > 215 > Summey Cove > 140 > Kissie Creek > 140A > Farlow Gap > Daniel Ridge > 475 > Davidson River > 475

Simply outstanding. Peak colors around Black Balsam. Flat Laurel, Summey and Farlow.

Sunday was a run. Coontree Loop clockwise. While the bike portion of Coontree is an eroded and blown out gutter of a trail (but still a lot of fun to ride) the other half is perfect Pisgah single track. Tight, twisty and pristine.

Monday was another run. Pressley Cove > Black Mtn. to the first overlook on Black. The plan was to do it out and back but on the way down Joe missed the turn onto Pressley off Maxwell Cove and we went all the way down the road to FR9999.

Somewhere in the middle of that week was another fishing romp through North Mills River with the bike.

And every day it seems is punctuated by an evening dog run on the trail system that lies just outside my back door.

Saturday was more trout fishing in Pisgah. I wasn't feeling very motivated and just did the Maxwell Cove > Black Mtn. loop. Didn't catch anything but had fun!

Yesterday it was back to Pisgah with the dog this time to try our luck on the classic Cat Gap > John Rock loop.
