Hot Springs

I feel like I should tell you something about Hot Springs. Well, Mill Ridge trail #280 is nothing special at all and other than some nice views thanks to recent logging there is not much to note about the loop - Laurel River #310  on the other hand, was a very nice surprise. It might be the absolute flattest trail I have ridden in Western North Carolina but had enough technical spots and outstanding stream side riding to keep me on my toes and smiling for the entire out and back. Of course I had not done any research on the trail before riding it so I had no idea it ended at a ghost town and did not venture off the trail and into Runion. That oversight just gives me a good reason to go back and ride the trail again! Laurel River sees heavy foot traffic from people using the trail to access the many fine swimming holes found on the river but does not see much bicycle traffic at al so when you ride it watch your speed and expect hikers around every bend. Don't forget to take your swimming suit and a couple of beers!
